These silent pests are able to chew their way through wooden structures and, if left to their own devices eventually cause the collapse of eaves, beams and other supporting structures. Soils poisoning is one of the very steps in the building process. Prior to the laying of your foundations and slabs, the ground beneath your future home needs to be treated for termites. All termiticides need to be applied according to manufacturer specifications. Although there are numerous registered termiticides available on the South African market with varying dilution rates, they all need to be applied at a rate of 5litres mixture per 1m2 of soil for new structures and may only be applied by a registered pest control operator whom holds an additional registration to perform termite related work. Given the cost and inconvenience of retreating a new property one must question the wisdom of trying to save a bit of money on the original soil treatment.
